A pair of 3rd quarter FGs for WV was countered by
a BC TD making it 34-17 late in the third quarter. BC put together a drive
that started out heir own 10 and made it to the WV 1 before a fumble gave the
ball back to the Mountaineers. WV drove out of harms way before being forced
to a punt. BC's Blackmon took the kick at his own 1 and ran it back 99 yards
to make it a 34-24 game. An failed onside kick gave the ball to WV in good
field position and Andy "it's" Good made it 37-24. After a nice
drive BC lost the balls on downs at the WV 19. WV was forced to punt and
Dejuan Tribble returned the ball 51 yards to make it 37-31 and BC was back in
business. WV finished things off with a short drive that ended with a 44 yard
flat pass completion to Kay-Jay Harris and the Mountaineers, after adding a
2-point conversion, were up by 2 TDs 45-31 and that's how the game ended. The Mountaineers totaled 29 first downs and kept the
ball for 37 minutes. Unlike the last few weeks, the running game was
abandoned early in favor of passing attack. Rasheed Marshall had one of his
best games throwing for 343 yards and 3 TDs while going 26-36. Chris Henry
caught 9 balls giving him 78 receptions for the year and Kay-Jay Harris
pulled down 7 for 116 yards and 2 TDs. Harris added 81 yards on 18 carries
while Colson finished with 65 yards on 16 carries. BC had an effective passing attack with Peterson
throwing for 246 yards while going 16-29. However, he had 2 costly
interceptions, one in the WV endzone. The running game was effective early,
but was abandoned for the passing game but BC piled up 159 yards on nearly 6
yards a pop. |

Georgia Tech Visits The Aggies in With the Yellowjackets head coach away on business,
the “HOUSE OF PAIN” stepped in to face his ultimate coaching rival, Vic
Artibey and the Texas Aggies. Coach Payne was chomping at the bit right out
of the visiting teams tunnel to the Aggies field, yelling and screaming at
his players…..”Don’t let me down guys…DON’T LET ME DOWN!” “I cannot take another loss to this man MY
GAWWWD” On the other side of the field Coach Artibey
calmly walked out to the center of the field, turned slowly to view the
packed house for this final game of the season. He knew his team was better,
coming into the game with a respectable 7-3 record, as opposed the the
Yellowjackets 5-6 mark. The Aggies also laid claim to the # 1 rushing defense
in the league, and the # 2 rushing offense in the league. The Yellowjackets
were well near the bottom in all offensive catagories. Coach Artibey rallied his team and got ready for
the opening kickoff which his team was to receive. With a backpack in tow,
obviously loaded with munchies and beverages, he took his place on the sidelines
and barked out plays and hand signals to the players on the field. A quick 3 and out for the Aggies and they punted
to the Yellowjackets endzone for a touchback. Starting from their own 20, the Yellowjackets
struck fast. After a 7 yard Grant run, Reggie Ball hit a streaking Nate Curry
for a 68 yard gain as coach Payne was going all out to defeat his nemesis. On
2nd and goal from the 5, PJ Daniels ran it in for a 7-0 Yellowjackets lead 11:42 1st QTR. After working their way out to midfield, the
Aggies had to punt again. Then after a G.T punt, the Aggies had the ball at
their own 34. With the Yellowjackets stuffing the A&M running game, coach
Artibey went to the air. A 12 yard pass to Stutz, and a 3 yard Lewis run gave
them a 2nd and 3 at their own 49. Coach
Artibey, with his backpack that seemed to always need adjusting……wait….it’s
not a backpack……it’s…it’s a baby carrier!! MY GOODNESS! Looks as if the wife
was running some errands and Poppa had to bring little Nathaniel along. Well, it seems the hand signals for “FLAT PASS
RIGHT” (WAVE ONE HAND AND COVER YOUR MOUTH) got misread as “GO DEEP JASON
CARTER” (WAVE ONE HAD IN FRONT OF
NOSE, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND MAKE A PUKING SOUND) (little Nat made a boo-boo) Well Reggie McNeil let one fly, and Nathan Burton
stepped in front of it and took it 77 yards for a score and a 14-0 Yellowjackets lead. 6:00 1st QTR. Vic and the Aggies then got moving and put a good
drive together. In 11 plays they were on the G.T. 12 yard line. But penalties
pushed them back to the 25 and they had to settle for a FG. 14-3 Yellowjackets 14:06 2nd QTR. Following a GT punt, the Aggies moved the ball
again. This time Coach Artibey used a quick pass attack to move the ball to
the G.T. 5 yard line in 8 plays. With a 1st and goal on the 5, the
Aggies had a 5 yard TD pass to Stutz called back with a holding penalty. 1st
and goal at the 15. Another holding call on a 0 yard run made it 1st
and goal on the 25. After all was said and done it was 4th and
goal on the 23, and the Aggies had to settle for 3 again. 14-6 Yellowjackets 5:06 2nd QTR. Following a GT punt, coach Artibey, baby in tow,
was up and down the sidelines, bouncing little Nat up and down at a furious
pace! A 25 yard pass to Lewis, and a 10 yarder to
Carter. A 10 yard Lewis run and an 8 yard pass to Murphy for the quick TD.
The 2 point play was snuffed out and it was 14-12 Yellowjackets 1:45 2nd QTR. Dissaster struck GT, a fumble on their own 31
recovered by A&M on the GT 25. A 15 yard pass to Carter to the 10. G.T. holds
there and another FG for the Aggies. 15-14 Aggies halftime. After trading punts and GT losing the ball on
downs at the Aggies 35, Coach Artibey went to work on the playbook and was
intent on putting his long time rival to rest. In the mean time, Mrs. Artibey has returned from
her errands to watch her hubby bub try to coach the game, keep the little
ones pacifier in his mouth, read goo goo stories, and warm bottles of formula
under the Texas sun for JR. Back to the game……a 15 yard penalty on GT coach
Payne for unsportsmanlike conduct on the sidelines for making NA-NA-GOO-GOO
sounds, and using the T-SHIRT SLINGSHOT THROWER to fling gatorade soaked
diapers acroos the field, hitting coach Artibey right in the scrotum. OH YEAh, the game. After a 5 yard penalty on GT, 2nd and
16 from their own 46…..OH GEEZ…COACH ARTIBEY IS WAVING TO HIS WIFE TO COME
GET LITTLE Nathaniel. Waving franticly, pointing towards the restrooms behind
the south endzone…..OH NO..ANOTHER MISREAD HAND SIGNAL!!! McNeil misread what was supposed to be a off
tackle draw, for another long pass to the endzone! The ball sailed, and was picked off by
nickle back Reuben Houston, he dodged his way downfield, right past the
A&M bench, (Coach Artibey, on his knees, pounding his fists on the turf,
Little Nathaniel giggling away on Daddies back.) 74 yards for another defensive TD for the
Yellowjackets. 21-15 Yellowjackets 3:36 3rd QTR. That is the final score of the game as both teams
played great defense the rest of the game. The Yellowjackets shut down the very good A&M
running game to the tune of 34-71-2.1
avg-0TD The Aggies also shut down the G.T. run game
giving up only 75 yards on 30 carries for a 2.5 yard avg 1TD. Vic coached his usual great game vs me and I kept
waiting for the PAYNEFUL fumble or INT that would give the game back to him.
But the two costly distractions of the new Poppa were HUGE causing the two
long passes to be intercepted and ran back for touchdowns by the
Yellowjackets!! AS ALWAYS VIC…GREAT GAME!! (it was my turn,
hehehehe) |
