GAME SUMMARY:

The Iowa State Cyclones are no pushover, unlike some of the cupcakes the other teams played this week.  In fact, their defense is very tough with ranking against the run = Good and Vs the pass = Good to Excellent.  The Boston College coaches knew this would be a stiff test but also a good opportunity to impress the voters.

Boston College played some great defense of their own and didn't allow Iowa St. to score until early in the 4th quarter and held the Cyclones to only 184 yards and 7 points.

On offense, Boston College amassed an impressive 512 yards.  Boston College ended up winning 33-7.  The voters should keep in mind that Iowa St. also has an excellent team penalty card and as a result, Boston College had to overcome 11 penalties for 89 yards.

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

(#3) Wisconsin wins 28-14 over (#238) Iona, but Iona coach Mike Payne played brilliantly and basically outplayed Wisonsin. Iona had more first downs and more time of possesion.

Wisconsin was down 14-0 until late in the 2nd quarter. Wisconsin could barely get into Iona territory until that time!

Iona's first to scores were both on over 20 yard TD passes from QB Michael Biehl to WR Dennis Calacione.

Wisonsin finally punched one in on a 1 yard dive by FB Matt Bernstein. Iona led 14-7 at the half and left the field to boo's by the disgruntled Wisconsin crowd.

Wisconsin's last TD seemed to give them momentum for the 2nd half.

On Iona's first possesion after the kickoff, Wisconsin backed them up to their own 7 yard line and at 4th and 20 had to punt.

Wisconsin blocked the punt, recovered it in the endzone to tie the game at 14.

This really started to shake up Iona.

Nearing the end of the 3rd quarter Iona RB Greg Bielski fumbled the ball and Wisconsin's Jamal Cooper scooped up the ball at ran it in 47 yards for the TD, but wait, it was called back due to a Wisconsin offsides penalty. The game remained tied at 14 as Iona dodged a bullet.

Wisconsin went on to score 2 more TD's in the 4th quarter first on a 14 yard pass from QB John Stocco to WR Darrin Charles and then on a 56 yard run by HB Anthony Davis.

The first half was pretty much Iona's, but Wisconsin was too strong, clampped down on defense and score 28 unanswered points (almost 35)!

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

The Buckeyes dusted off the ground game (46-224-2TD's) and out ran the wishbone attack of Air Force (30-151-0TD). Lydell Ross lead the way for the Buckeyes with 20-124-6.2 avg and 2 TD's. Ohio State opened the scoring after taking the game opening kickoff  with a 15 play 87 yard drive that mixed up the run and passing of Zwick (17-30-238-0-0-sck 1/1 rate 123.3) very efficiantly. The drive took over 6 minutes off the clock and Ross took it in from 2 yards out for a 7-0 OSU lead.

After trading punts, OSU drove again, 8 plays 42 yards capped off with a 4 yard Pittman (19-83-4.2avg-1TD) run for a 14-0 OSU lead. Air Force coach Don Morton got his troops in order their next possesion and drove through the Buckeye defens with a 10 play 64 yard drive that ended with a 3 yard pass from Shaun Carney (14-30-127-1TD-2INT-sck 0/0 rate 79.9) to J.P. Waller. 14-7 OSU. That was the last of Air Force scoring as the Buckeye defense came up big on numourous occasions to stop Air Force drives.

Their next 2 decent drives ended in interceptions by Tyler Everrett and Bobby Carpenter at the OSU 24 and 20 yard lines. While the Buckeye defense was keeping Air Force well out of scoring range, the Air Force defense was letting the Buckeyes just close enough to add 6 Mike Nugent (6/6) FG's, and a 23 yard Ross run for a TD to build up a 38-7 win for the Buckeyes.

OSU held a 7:00 advantage in possesion time, won the turnover battle 4-0, lead in yards gained 462-278. Though the Buckeye offense only hit the endzone 3 times, they overpowered Air Force with a well balanced offense and a power running game. Lets not forget that teams win with defense also, as the Buckeyes came up with Big stops on defense (3 INT's on the OSU 24,20,AND 4 YARD LINES, A FUMBLE RECOVERY ON THE AIRFORCE 29, AND A TURNOVER ON DOWNS AT THE OSU 39)

Darnell Stephens led Air Force runners with 10 carries for 49 yards.

J.P. Waller led Air Force recievers with 10 catches for 93 yards and 1 TD.

Ryan "HAMBONE" Hamby led OSU recievers with 5 catches for 87 yard, Ted Ginn had 3 receptions for 73 yards for OSU.

Don Morton did a great job running the Air Force wishbone, but the OSU defense made big plays at the right times to hold the Air Force back.

FINAL SCORE 38-7 OSU.

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

Oklahoma State had to pull one out of their rear pockets tonight. The offense was just not clicking. Donovan Woods completed 11 of 24 passes for 131 yards and 2 Ints. OSU also had a FG called back at the end of the 1st half on a penalty as time ran out. The OSU offense was garnered by running backs Vernard Morency and Shawn Willis. Morency had 220 yards on 20 carries and Willis had 77 yards on 19 carries. Time of possession went to Furman by almost 3 minutes. Coach Knight told reporters after the game that he was very disappointed with his team tonight. Missed FG's, Ints, Long Gains against the Defense, costly penalties, no one was left out of this effort or should I say lack there of. Furman had 2 missed FG's and an Int in the endzone, with a couple of conversions in those situations we would not have come out of this one so lucky, said Coach Knight. If we don't preform any better than this it's gonna be a long season. Coach Knight assured the local reporters that he takes full blame in not getting his team prepared and he will not let that happen again next week.

Tennessee Tech held OSU to pretty much nothing in the 2nd half but OSU was on cruise control running the ball up the middle and Tech just put 8 and 9 guys in the box.

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

Aggie fans were treated to 212 yd, 3 TD, 5.4 yard per carry running game extravaganza by their underappreciated running-back-by-committee.  Courtney Lewis led all rushers with 132 yds on 18 carries and also punched in 2 of the Aggies 5 TDs.  QB Reggie McNeal was steady all day and spread the ball evenly to 4 different receivers (4, 4, 4, 3).

The Falcons from Bowling Green are an extremely tough offensive unit both passing and running the ball.  The Aggies were very fortunate to rack up a convincing win vs. an opponent of this caliber.

On the other side of the ball, Bowling Green was stopped for a mere 53 yards rushing on 26 attempts while the A&M defense stuffed the Falcons on all 3 of their 4th down attempts.  Bowling Green QB Omar Jacobs had a decent day passing for 240 yds and 62.5%.  Penalties hurt the Falcons (10-86 compared to 5-25 for A&M).

GAME SUMMARY:

West Virginia took on the heavily favored #1 USC Trojans. The Mountaineers got the ball first, starting out on their own 38. On 3rd and 7, Rasheed Marshall surprised the Trojan defense with a bomb to Chris Henry good for 28 yards to the USC 16. On the next play, Marshall hit Miquelle Henderson for the TD and a surprise 7-0 Mountaineer lead. USC struck back quickly on a 48-yard TD run by Heisman candidate Reggie Bush and a 61-yard pass play from Heisman candidate Matt Leinart to Dominque Byrd. At the end of the 1st quarter it was 14-7 USC. Leinart followed with 2 TD passes to Byrd in the 2nd quarter and together with a FG, USC was up 31-7 at the half.

Midway through the 3rd quarter WV cut the lead to 31-14 on an 8-yard scamper by Marshall. WV started to take control and were moving again when Marshall was picked off by Shaun Cody at the 50 yard line on a screen pass and Cody ran it back for a TD and a 38-14 USC lead. WV added 10 points at the start of the 4th quarter to cut the lead to 38-24, but a long USC drive killed the clock and resulted in another TD pass from Leinart, making the final score 45-24.

Penalties played a key role in the Mountaineer downfall as they accumulated 10 penalties for 86 yards while USC had 2 penalties for 25 yards. On the strength of the 48-yard TD run, Reggie Bush accumulated 109 yards on 14 carries while LenDale White accumulated just 56 yards on 23 carries for the victors. Leinart, however, was deadly all afternoon going 24-35 for 296 yards, 4 TDs and 1 pick. Most of the Mountaineer offense came from Marshall who was 15-30 for 211 yards, a touchdown but had 2 costly picks. Kay-Jay Harris picked up 82 yards on 18 carries while Jason Colson added 26 more on 6 carries.
