GAME SUMMARY:

This game went from chess match, to shootout, to chess match, to shootout.

The first quarter was a chess match. Both teams trading the ball and going nowhere until late in the quarter when Wisconsin QB John Stocco hooked up with WR Brandon Williams for an 82 yard bomb and Wisconsin took the lead 7-0.

Wisconsin kicked the ball off and Purdue fumbled it and Wisconsin recovered at the Purdue 29. Things were looking bad for Purdue as Wisconsin took advantage of the turnover and scored again, this time on 4 yard pass to TE Jason Pociask and Wisconsin was up 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter.

On Purdue's next possesion, QB Kyle Orton hooked up with WR Pur87(?) for a 64 yard bomb to close in within 7. (Wisconsin 14-Purdue 7)

Wisconsin scored next on a 5 yard run by Matt Bernstein to open the lead by 14 again. (Wisconsin 21-Purdue 7)

Purdue bounce right back as the shootout continued this time on another Orton 48 yard bomb to WR Taylor Stubblefield, to close the gap within 7 again (Wisconsin 21-Purdue 14).

Purdue's second quarter comeback was completed with 15 seconds left in the half on a 9 yard Orton pass to RB Jerod Void. The game was knotted at 21 at the half!

The third quarter began as the first in a chess match as no team could score until Wisconsin broke free late in the 3rd to regain the lead 28-21 on yet another 74 yard bomb, this time from QB Stocco to his other WR Darrin Charles.

Purdue tied it right back up early in the 4th quarter on an 11 yard run by RB Jerome Brooks. (28-28)

Then another tense defensive chess match started up again until Purdue took their first lead in the game with 2 minutes remaining in the game on a 22 yard Ben Jones FG. (Purdue 31-Wisconsin 28)

Wisconsin saw their season slipping away and a possible 3 game losing streak and tried to pull out all stops in the final 2 minutes.

Wisconsin started at their own 24 and completed a 5 play 76 yard (45 second) drive, capped off by what was to be the winning TD a 19 yard end run by HB Anthony Davis. (Wisconsin 35-Purdue 31).

Now all Wisconsin had to do was hold Purdue for 1:15 and they did.

Wisconsin pulls off the upset of #1 Purdue in an exciting game to the end.

Kyle Orton has a great card btw, especially long!

Thanks for a good and fun game Joe!

GAME SUMMARY:

This was a wild game and a fun one to be involved with.  The Boston College Eagles started off on fire, scoring the first 5 times they had the ball (including an intercepted pass off Florida QB Chris Leak that was taken to the house on the first play of the game) to jump out to a 31-7 lead.  The Gators returned the favor, returning an interception of BC QB Paul Peterson for a td of their own shortly before half to cut the margin to 31-14 at the break.

It looked like the second half was going to start out as more of the same as BC took the opening possession to the FL 32 yard line, but then Peterson was picked off again.  FL drove to the BC 31 before they fumbled.  But just 4 plays later, the Gator defense picked Peterson for the 3rd time.  Florida was able to tack on a field goal to pull within 14 at 31-17.

On the next BC possession, the Eagles went for it on 4th and were stopped cold.  Florida put together a nice drive and suddenly the score was 31-24.  The Gators forced BC to punt on the next possession and their offense was able to complete the amazing comeback 31-31 with just 1:22 left in the game.

With all of their timeouts and the clock stoppages for first downs, the Eagles were able to move to near midfield with 15 seconds left.  Against a nickel defense looking for the pass, BC got into position for the game winning fg attempt with a 31 yard scamper around right end.  With :01 left the kick was true and Boston College escaped with their undefeated record intact while the Gators suffer a tough defeat for their first loss of the season.

This game was a tale of two halves.  BC did what ever they wanted in the first half.  First play from scrimmage, Chris Leak threw a 21 yard int for a TD.  The Gators answered that with a 13 play, 77 yard drive to tie it up on a 2 yard TD pass.  Then it was all BC for the nest 4 drives.  The Eagles scored 3 straight TD's kicked a 44-yd FG half way through the second quarter.  Making the score 31-7 BC.  After BC was driving (yet again), the Gators picked off a FP and took it 63 yards for a TD.  Shortly after that, there was a power failure in Gainesville (actually, here in South Bend).  The game was stopped until the next day when the power came back.  This was what the Gators needed.  A break from the beating....   After the game resumed, BC held the ball until the end of the first half.  The score was 31-14 BC.  The Eagles now started to turn the ball over.  BC drove into Gator territory and w! as intercepted at the Florida 32 yard line.  The Gators were nice enough to give it back on a Ciatrick Fason fumble at the BC 30.  Florida intercepted another pass at the FLA 46 yard line.  This time, the Gators drove to the BC 20 and kicked a FG. Making the score 31-17.  The Gator defense now standing tall with some confidence, stopped BC on a 4th and 2 with a -3 on a FP.  The Gators then drove 43 yards on 14 plays (converting a 4th down) ending with a TD pass from Leak to Baker from 8 yards out to make the score 31-24.  With the help of some penalties, BC was forced to punt.  Taking the ball at their own 29 yard line, the Gators drove for the tying TD on a 5-yd pass to Caldwell with 1:22 left.  Yes, that was too much time.  BC kicked a 40 yard FG with :01 left to win it 34-31.

Ciatrick Fason had another Heisman like performance with 132 yards on 29 carries (and 1 costly fumble).  Chris Leak had a good game too 23-36, 182, 3 TD's and 1 int.

The Gators are looking for some votes to get out of the cellar.  BC is probably the best team here.  There is no reason that Florida should be ranked near the bottom......

GAME SUMMARY:

The West Virginia Mountaineers went into Grant Field in Atlanta to face the Ramblin' Wreck. The Mountaineers got off to a fast start with a 48-yard td pass from Marshall to Chris Henry and a quick 7-0 lead. The next WV drive ended ina  FG and a 10-0 lead. After another stop of the Tech offense, Pacman Jones ran back his second punt for a TD this season and WV had a 17-0 lead just 12 minutes in. Kay-Jay Harris added to the fireworks on the next WV series with a 38 yard run for a 24-0 lead.

Tech got a FG with 5 minutes to play in the 1st half and WV went into halftime with a 24-3 lead. After stopping Tech on the first series of the 2nd half, WV struck again, this time with 42-yard pass play from Marshall to Miquelle Henderson, which was followed by an 8-yard td pass by the same duo. This made it 31-3 WV. Tech put up a FG early in the fourth and then following up on another big punt return by Pacman, Chris Henry caught his 2nd TD pass of the game and that closed out the scoring. WV wins 38-6.

Pacman piled up 127 yards on 5 punt returns. The defense stuffed the Tech offense giving up 178 passing yards as Reggie Ball went 18-38 with 1 pick and 3 sacks. P.J. Daniels was held to just 20 yards on 16 carries, while Rashaun Grant was the only Tech bright spot, running for 65 yards on 12 carries.

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

A HUGE 3rd QTR explosion (20-0) from the Aggies, helped along by a fumbled return by the Cowboys Prentiss Elliott, enabled Texas A&M to come away with a convincing win over the Boys from Oklahoma State.  The #1 ranked run defense of the Aggies faced and met the challenge of the league’s #2 running back Vernand Morency limiting him to 40 yards on 20 carries.  In fact, the entire Cowboys team (ranked #2 in running offense) was held to 85yds on 34 carries (2.5ypc).

Both QBs had very decent games considering their teams ranked 7th (Aggies) and 10th (Cowboys) respectively.  Each team passed the ball 29 times and the Cowboys had 1 more yard than the Aggies passing... 217/216.  The ground-pounding Texas A&M 5th ranked running offense churned out 218yds on 38 carries.  Four different A&M runners had runs of over 10 yards, yet no Aggie back broke the century mark (Keith Joseph 9-91-2 was closest).

If not for the fateful 3rd QTR, the Aggies would have been tagged w/the 2nd loss of the season instead of the Oklahoma State Cowboys...
