GAME SUMMARY:

#1 Boston College falls to #7 Georgia Tech ! ! ! ! (#7 before WEEK 5 voted on)

What a game it was.  BC owned the first 10 minutes of the game as they drove the length of the field on the opening drive for a TD.  GT followed with a 9 play drive that gained 9 yards and a punt.  BC drove the 56 yards for another TD.  GT held the ball for 3 plays and 3 yards ending with a lost fumble.  BC took two plays to score another TD and had a 20-0 lead.  Then the trouble began and the Engineers at GT started to ramble.

GT took the next series 80 yards on 10 plays and scored a TD.  BC took the kickoff and 20 yards on 6 plays ending in a lost fumble.  GT moved the ball 55 yards on 10 plays and kicked a 22 yd FG.  BC and GT's next drives were both 3 and out (punt).  BC took its last possession of the first half 6 pyards on 4 plays and turned it over on downs.  GT took advantage and drove 55 yards on 8 plays for the TD, to close at half 20-16.

BC's second half saw only 3 points added on a 31 yd FG.  GT took its second possession of the half 64 yards on 4 plays for a TD for a 23-20 led.  BC tied the game 23-23 with 3:18 to go in the 3rd quarter.   GT then took the opening drive in the 4th quarter55 yards on 10 plays for a 25 yd FG and a led of 26-23.  The last score came with a 79 yard GT drive (highlighted by a 71 yd pass) that ended with only 1:30 left in the game.

Reggie Ball stats 24 of 39 for 343 yards.

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

Purdue QB Kyle Orton RIPS the Aggie secondary for 439 yds and FIVE TDS—but Aggie QB Reggie McNeal leads a BIG-PLAY offense to a tremendous victory with a miraculous 81yd catch and run play with 45 seconds to play in the game.  With Purdue taking the lead (34-29) on a 33yd Dorian Bryant TD catch with 4:48 to play in the game, Jason Carter starts the comeback (not so unlikely as of yet) by returning the kickoff 43 yards... Texas A&M decides to eventually kick the FG ( 49 yds ) with 2:06 to play and go for the onside kick.

Enter comeback killer “non-recovery of onside kick”... but alas!  Purdue fails to run all the time off the clock and has to punt to the Aggies.... hmmm... here comes the miracle: from their own 19 on 2nd and 10 with under a minute to play—Reggie McNeal drops back and tests the flat to see if any big gainers might be in the cards... a GAIN is hit alright... a 81 YARD GAIN!  Holy Smokes!  Intended, not intended???  I’m not sure, but Coach Artibey had to rub his eyes and check twice to see if that really was his kicking team down on the 3 yd line ready to take a 5 point lead... Wow!

INTERESTINGLY enough ... Purdue ran 96 plays to Texas A&M’s 55.  To show the big play day of the Aggies... the Aggies out GAINED the Boilermakers 513-474—incredible!  Considering Purdue had 41 more snaps from center!

KEY to VICTORY: 9 Aggie SACKS (Jason Jack had 4, Chris Harrington-3)  to 0 for the Boilermakers...also, the #1 run defense in the league stuffing Purdue for 35 yds on 27 carries (although Kyle Orton is a disaster on must run ( 11- (-34) )... HUGE plays on offense for the Aggies ( 75yd run, 70yd pass, 81yd pass)... Purdue Kicker Ben Jones (0-2) (1 from 20-29!) and Aggie Kicker Todd Pegram (2-3) !!  and NO turnovers from the Aggie side of the house...

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

OSU took the opening kickoff and just plain pounded it down Virginia's throat. Vernand Morency was on a mission in this one. Seymore Shaw scored from 1-yard out for a 7-0 OSU lead.  Virginia took the insuing kickoff and rather quickly marched down the field with a 34 yd TD pass from Hagans to McGrew. In the 2nd Qtr Virginia got a 1-yd TD run from Hagans and a FG from Hughes, as OSU got a FG from Ricks. Virginia went in at halftime with a 17-10 lead.

OSU held Virginia on the opening KO of the 2nd half and Morency continued but OSU could only muster a FG out of the drive. Virginia added another TD by Pearman in the 3rd to take the lead 24-13.

OSU sticking to it's game plan and continued to run the ball. Vernand Morency had broke the 150 yd mark in the 3rd qtr and Coach Knight had to rest him. 4th qtr saw a 31-yd TD pass from Donovan Woods to D'Juan Woods, and OSU converted a 2-point conversion 24-21 Virginia.

OSU's Defense continued to hold Virginia's powerful offense and with 4:12 left in the game Seymore Shaw dove in the endzone from 1-yd out and OSU took the lead 28-24. Coach Knight now worried about that Virginia Offense and rightfully so. Vifginia had a brilliant KO return to the 47 yard line, and started their drive. With 30 seconds left in the game Jason Snelling went right up the middle for a 3-yd TD run and Virginia remained undefeated as OSU fell to 3-3. OSU has come so close in all of it's 3 losses.

Time of possession went to OSU 33 min to 26 min. Vernand Morency had a whopping 181 yards rushing on 34 carries for a 5.3 ypc. Coach Knight remarked after the game that it was one of the best games he had ever been involved with, "I would have like to come out on the other side though"

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

Florida wins 37-13 ( the Wisconsin TD was scored with 1:30 left in the game).  This one was dominated by Chris Leak from the start.  Leak was 23-35 for 309 yards and 3 TD's (QB rating of 162.4).  I think that he heard someone say that Kyle Orton had good numbers (for the Heisman) and he took it personally.   Speaking of the Heisman, Ciatrick Fason had another great game.  His rushing wasn't the best 31-131 1 TD, but he also had 6 catches for 86 yards and another TD.  Wisconsin called a good game, but had some bad rolls when they needed good ones.  Florida was 9-17 on third down (Wisc was 2-16).  Anthont Davis was held to 83 yards rushing and Stocco was 14-35 for 125 yards 1 TD and 1 int.  Florida improves to 5-1 (only loss to BC by 3 points).  The Gators are looking to move way up in the polls this week........

BOXSCORE

GAME SUMMARY:

BUCKEYES STAY ALIVE WITH 26-24 WIN VS WELL COACHED MOUNTAINEERS

The Buckeyes survived a scare from #10 West Virginia and came away with a 26-24 victory.

After a 49 yard Nugent (4/4) FG, W. Va. put a stunning 21 play, 78 yard, 8:42 drive on the board that ended with a 9 yard TD pass from Rasheed Marshall (30-50-270-2TD-0INT) to Eddie Jackson (7-62-1TD) and a

7-3 Mountaineer lead.

Another Nugent FG of 33 yards, and a W.VA. FG of 38 yards closed the first half scoring with 0:45 left in the half with

W. Va leading 10-6......

OR so we thought........

A 34 yard Hall KR gave OSU the ball on the Buckeye 49 with 0:30 left. A long pass to Santonio Holmes fell incomplete at the W. Va. 25. A 12 yard Antonio Pittman (15-132-1TD) run put OSU on the W. Va. 39 with 0:15 on the clock. Intent on just running the clock and getting Nugent a chance for a very makable FG to pull within 1 point, OSU came out in a 2 TE 1 RB set and ran a simple off tackle play. Pittman broke free at the line of scrimmage and saw nothing but daylight on his way to a 39 yard TD run as the half ended.

13-10 OSU

The Buckeyes took that momentem into, and back out of the locker room and took the second half kick off and drove (aided by 2 pers. foul penalties) 81 yards in 12 plays. Scoring on a 2 yard TD pass from Troy Smith (13-22-134-1TD-0INT) to Roger "HAMBONE" Hamby.

20-10 Buckeyes.

Following a Mountaineer punt, OSU drove 56 yards in 7 plays for a 47 yard Nugent FG and a 23-10 OSU lead.

W. Va. answered with an 11 play 67 yard drive that ended with a 1 yard Kay-Jay Harris (23-117-1TD) TD run with 14:06 left in the game.

23-17 OSU.

A 51 yard Santonio Holmes kick return gave the Buckeyes great field position at the Mountaineer 31. But the W.Va. defense buckled down and held the Buckeyes, who gained just 2 yards before Nugent connected on a 46 yard FG. Coach Tressel looked very uneasy on the sidelines having not gotten the TD to get a more comfortable 13 point lead.

26-17 OSU 12:00 LEFT.

W. Va. answered again with a 8 play 73 yard drive that ended with a 13 yard TD pass from Marshall to Chris Henry. (10-110-1TD)

26-24 OSU 8:06 LEFT.

After gaining -3 yards on their next possession, OSU punted, and held the Mountaineers as well, to just -1 yard and a punt. W.VA. again held, and OSU punted to the Mountaineer 39 with 1:22 left.

9 plays and 40 yards later, West Virginia was on the Buckeyes 21 with 0:08 on the clock. On 3rd down the Mountaineers were content to try the 38 yard FG (2-6)...(2-9 from the 10).

The kick was wide left and the Buckeyes escape with a victory.

FINAL SCORE 26-24 BUCKEYES ( 4-2 )

I MUST credit Bob with giving me probably the most mentally thought out game I ever had. A real cat and mouse game strategy wise.
